ABOUT MONSARAZ SWIMRUN

It is always with great joy and good memories that we head back to the Alentejo, located in the south of Portugal, to lose ourselves in the amazing atmosphere of the Alqueva dam, or the “Grande Lago”, as it is also called, a huge amount of water that it occupies a total area of 250 km2, turning it to the largest artificial lake in Western Europe. It is on its banks, surrounded by fields, with olive, cork and holm oaks, that we find this scenario that offers perfect conditions for the practice of our sport, in a perfect fusion of demanding trails and open water swimming.

In this 4th edition, we raised the degree of difficulty of the course, challenging all participants to go through some of the demanding trails next to Monsaraz Castle to Herdade do Xerez, to discover the corners of the banks of the Great Lake, only accessible in swimrun mode, to the most distant areas of Campinho and Albardeiros, always with swimming crossings with fantastic views, one of which is the famous Golden Island. Once again, the starting and ending point of this journey will be at the fantastic Monsaraz River Beach.
